A case study of azimuthal AVO analysis with anisotropic spreading correction

چکیده

Seismic methods play an important role in the development of tight fractured reservoirs with substantial spatial variability of fracture density. Here, we apply a comprehensive processing sequence designed for layered azimuthally anisotropic media to wide-azimuth P-wave data acquired over a fractured gas sand formation in the Rulison field, Colorado. The main processing steps include nonhyperbolic moveout inversion based on an orthorhombic velocity model, estimation of effective and interval normal-moveout (NMO) ellipses, anisotropic geometricalspreading correction, and azimuthal amplitude-variationwith-offset (AVO) analysis.

Effects of Fractured Reservoir Elastic Properties on Azimuthal Avo

Aligned vertical fractures introduce velocity anisotropy which is directly related to parameters, such as fracture density, fracture shape and fracture contents. Effective medium models allow us to study qPand qS-wave velocity anisotropy in rocks with aligned vertical fractures, intersecting fracture sets and aligned fractures with smallscale porosity. Spatially varying fracture density distrib...

Detection of Fracture Orientation Using Azimuthal Variation of P-wave Avo Responses

Azimuthally-dependent P-wave AVO (amplitude variation with offset) responses can be related to open fracture orientation and have been suggested as a geophysical tool to identify fracture orientation in fractured oil and gas reservoirs. A field experiment recently conducted over a fractured reservoir in the Barinas Basin (Venezuela) provides data for an excellent test of this approach. Three li...

Using AVO for fracture detection: Analytic basis and practical solutions

Tight, low-porosity reservoirs can produce significant amounts of hydrocarbons if fracture networks provide the necessary permeability. Characterization of naturally fractured reservoirs using surface seismic data is an important exploration problem that has attracted much attention in the literature. TLE, for example, had an entire issue (August 1996) on this subject. While the data and modeli...

Selective utilization of Saline ephemeral Rivers Flood for Soil Correction and Vegetation of Desert Rangelands (Case Study of Sirizi Bafgh station in Yazd)

One of the most suitable and efficient solutions for proper use of flood potential and saline ephemeral rivers in arid and desert areas is the use of flood spreading networks with a special design that while separating the saline base flow from the flood, water also increases forage production and improves the quantity and quality of pastures and desertification control. The purpose of this stu...

Amplitude versus Offset (AVO) Technique for Light Hydrocarbon Exploration: A Case Study

AVO as a known methodology is used to identify fluid type and reservoir lithology in subsurface exploration. Method discussed in this paper, consists of three stages, including: Direct modeling, Inverse modeling and Cross plot interpretation. By direct modeling we can clarify lithology or fluid dependent attributes. Analysis performed using both P-P and P-Sv attributes. Inverse modeling deals w...
